If your child's device is managed by their school or organisation's MDM, certain permissions and restrictions may apply. Here's a guide to help you navigate using ScreenCoach effectively in this environment:
Compatibility:
- Verify Third-Party App Installation:
- Check if your school/organisation allows installation of third-party apps like ScreenCoach. This information is often found in their IT policies or by contacting their IT department directly.
- Custom MDM Installer: If app installation is restricted to their MDM app installer, you'll need to request them to add ScreenCoach to their list of approved apps. You will then be able to install ScreenCoach.
Installation of ScreenCoach:
- App Store Installation: If App Store installation is permitted, proceed to download ScreenCoach from the App Store on the child's device.
- MDM Installer: Once ScreenCoach is added to your organisation's list of approved apps, you should be able to install ScreenCoach through their custom installer.
- Once installed, Login to ScreenCoach.
- Go to the hamburger menu on the top left and select "App Settings" so you can enable permissions on the devices for ScreenCoach to work.
- Be aware that MDM may already control certain features on the device. In such cases, ScreenCoach's Family Control might be limited. So you may see this warning on the screen.
- Individual ScreenTime Control:
- With MDM in place, you might encounter a warning stating that only Individual ScreenTime Control is available. This means your child could potentially disable or delete ScreenCoach.
- To address this, set up a ScreenTime PIN on the child's device.
- This PIN is different from the ScreenCoach PIN and requires parental knowledge.
Setting Up a ScreenTime PIN:
- On the child's device:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Screen Time.
- Scroll down and tap "Lock Screen Time Settings".
- Enter and re-enter a desired PIN to confirm.
- Note: It may prompt you to log in with your Apple ID (parent account) to enable the PIN.
- Open Settings.
Benefits of the ScreenTime PIN:
- Once set, the child cannot disable or uninstall ScreenCoach without the PIN, providing an extra layer of control.
Additional Tips:
- Clearly communicate the purpose and importance of ScreenCoach to your child to foster cooperation.
