The ScreenCoach apps need to be open all the time to be able to track the time used etc. When the app is running and it's online you will not receive any notifications.

If the app is not running:

  • Parents will get notifications to let you know that the app is not running properly
  • The device where the app is not running will also get notified every few seconds to ask them to open the app and start a new session
    • Ensure the notifications have not been turned off on the device

You can edit notification preferences for any user, including parents, by editing the user preferences and clicking on the notifications tab.

The concept of running all the time is the same for both Apple's iOS apps and Android apps, however, it is slightly different for each platform.

In order to keep ScreenCoach app running all the time on Android:

1. Open the ScreenCoach application

2. Click on the 3 stripes (hamburger menu) from the top left corner of the application

3. Select "App Permissions" from the list. Enable the option that says "Battery Usage" as shown in the below image.

Enable all the permissions in this screen for child devices.

Additional troubleshooting options. Via the device's app settings

The Background Battery Usage for the ScreenCoach application should be turned "Always On".

See the images attached below to check if the Battery Usage is turned on.

  1. Long press on the ScreenCoach icon on the Android device. Select the "i" icon as shown in the 1st image.

2. Once you are in, check if "Remove permissions if app is unused" is turned "OFF" as shown in the 2nd image.

3. Then scroll down a little, and you will find an option called "Battery". Select "battery" then select "Unrestricted" as shown in 3rd image.

Once these steps are followed on each device, the "Device Unavailability" notification will be solved.

Note: Whenever you install the ScreenCoach App on any device, make sure the battery permission is always turned ON.

Also Note: You can modify the device notification preferences on manage.myscreencoach.com and the mobile app and edit the options to have these notifications on or off and how frequently you want to see them.

You can also temporarily pause the notifications if you are away from home.
